Monday with a Mad Genius & Dark Day in the Deep by Mary Pope Osborne (Magic Tree House Books 38 & 39) read by Mary Pope Osborne
Jack and Annie continue their adventures in going to visit Leonardo da Vinci to find the secret of happiness. They have to spend a whole day with da Vinci and visit all the places he goes. They visit some of the places where he works and speak with him about his dreams. It is a great way to learn how inventors work. Jack and Annie see the notebooks where he writes all of his questions and ideas so that he can go back to ideas he had previously. I think that this is a very important lesson because kids (and myself!) sometimes hate to edit and change things.

Dark Day begins with Jack and Annie looking out the window of the tree house and wondering, “oh no not pirates again!” But thankfully they notice that these people are dressed far better than pirates and they eventually meet the scientists of the “HMS Challenger” — the first floating laboratory. In this story Annie’s environmental concern helps them find another clue to happiness. This was a wonderful short story in the Magic Tree House series.
